Festival de la Catrina 2026—So Far

A few photos from the first two days of the celebration, and a few from setting up

Today’s the last day of the first-ever local celebration of Halloween and Día de Muertos, a series of events organized cooperatively (and independently) by the communities of Saladita, Majahua and Troncones. To wrap things up today, Saladita has a special Catrina surf session planned at 8 am this morning, and a community dinner at 5 pm this afternoon. Troncones has a community celebration planned this evening at 6 pm, with a procession to the cemetery starting at 8 pm. This weekend saw trick-or-treaters everywhere on Saturday and a huge community dinner in Majahua on Sunday. These events have been more than two months in planning, committees being formed within each community to bring the spirit of the season to life—for everyone, the living and the dead.
