Casa Azul is blue on purpose.

‍

Its creator, Victoria Ryan, an artist who sculpts, paints and builds, says the color was inspired by Frida Kahlo, or perhaps by the robes of the Virgen de Guadalupe. Either way, it’s stunning and cool. Victoria also restored an old colonial mansion in Pátzcuaro, about three hours away, into a small B&B: Hotel Casa Encantada.

‍

Victoria fell for Troncones years ago and always wanted a small beach getaway. She likes a place that’s still small and intimate but has everything she needs, and Troncones does: good restaurants, a bakery, bars, surf, guided tours and a weekly organic market.

‍

The house sleeps up to four. The two bedrooms each have their own bathroom and a sitting area, with a central lounge between them. There’s a big kitchen, air conditioning, internet, purified drinking water and a shower in the garden. Pets are welcome.

‍

The beach is a short walk. In the morning, walk toward the sunrise and come home with the sun at your back. Sunset cocktails are an easy walk, too. When you want a busier day, Zihuatanejo is 20 minutes away.
