Troncones
La Cuna
La Cuna is a modern beachfront house in Troncones, designed around quiet.
Curved white walls open through glass to a saltwater pool and a garden, with the ocean just beyond. Light and sea breezes move through the whole house, and the kitchen opens straight onto the view. Owner Jocelyn Formento worked with a design team that included La Onda's own Aura Winarick, taking inspiration from a Portuguese designer and from Casa El Arco, a house on a similar coastline.
The land was once a large cattle grazing area, and for the most part it still is. Jocelyn likes to say that a lot of her neighbors are four-legged.
There are two king suites, each with its own bathroom. The ground-floor suite opens onto the deck and pool. The upstairs suite has its own terrace with ocean views, a coffee station, a reading corner and a desk. A small bonus room with a single bed is available for an additional charge. The bathrooms are part of the design too, with open-air showers, handmade tile and light that filters through patterned concrete blocks.
The house is built around natural cross-ventilation and solar power, and guests have the whole property to themselves except the garage. Downtown is about a mile away, a five-minute drive, and a private way leads down to a secluded beach. Guests can cook in the kitchen or ask for prepared meals for an additional charge.
For Jocelyn, La Cuna has also been her refuge for countless hours on the loom. She's a world-renowned weaver whose work graces the walls of homes across Troncones. You can see her work at jocelynformento.com. A Superhost with twelve years of hosting, she looks after every stay.
