Playa Limpia
For a clean, healthy and sustainable Troncones

Playa Limpia is a community-supported grassroots environmental program dedicated to keeping Troncones clean, healthy and sustainable. Since its early beginnings in 2016, the initiative has been guided by local community leaders including Ernesto LeĂłn Sandoval (known locally as Pato), Leela Francis and Alejandro Rodriguez.
‍
Supported in part by APCAT—Troncones’ long-standing conservation-minded homeowners association—Playa Limpia has become an important force on the Guerrero coast through its evolving waste management efforts, which includie recycling programs and local campaigns to reduce plastic use in homes and restaurants.
‍
Playa Limpia also supports composting throughout the community—with many households participating and sharing compost systems collecting organic waste from restaurants and residences—to help reduce reliance on chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and excess water use.
‍
Beyond waste reduction, Playa Limpia is deeply rooted in education and community engagement. Through monthly workshops, classes and hands-on learning experiences for gardeners, children and adults, the organization blends technical skills, outdoor activities and creative art-based programming to build environmental awareness among both locals and visitors.
‍
Playa Limpia has helped shape Troncones into one of the most environmentally conscious and well-cared-for beach communities in the region.
