proyecto saladita

Proyecto Saladita [ProtecciĂłn Costera y Reciclaje, A.C.] is a nonprofit dedicated to coastal conservation in Playa La Saladita and its surrounding areas.
‍
The all-volunteer organization is continuing the work started over a decade ago by the Azulita Project, whose founders and staff laid the foundation for environmental awareness throughout the Playa La Saladita community. Today, those original leaders continue to play an active role with Proyecto Saladita, providing the experience and mentorship necessary to build the next phase of coastal protection.
‍
A COMMUNITY-DRIVEN EFFORT
Proyecto Saladita is committed to sustainability, recycling, education and empowerment. By focusing on group activities and practical solutions, Proyecto Saladita has united the community’s local and visitor populations—offering volunteer-led programs that have made a positive impact and created meaningful change.

Plastic Recycling in Playa La Saladita has strategically placed 39 collection bins throughout Playa Saladita, the pueblo of Saladita, Barra Saladita, Boca de Lagunillas and neighboring Los Llanos. The bin locations were selected based on recognizing population density markers and plastic accumulation points near the river mouth, helping reduce waste where it matters most.
‍
The Green Star Program in Playa La Saladita is a locally led initiative to promote sustainable tourism and environmental care. It is designed for homeowners, rental hosts and their teams—including cleaning staff, maintenance workers and property managers—who want to take real, local action to reduce their environmental impact where it matters most.
‍
Aprender es Proteger is Proyecto Saladita’s school-based environmental education program for children in Los Llanos, offered twice a month throughout the school year. Held at the primary and middle school in Los Llanos, each session brings together all the students in a single, shared class—creating a joyful space for learning, creativity and connection. The program helps children understand where trash comes from, what happens when it isn’t managed properly, and how recycling and small daily actions can protect their coast from pollution.
‍
Cine con Sabor Local is a grassroots film and food series hosted in Playa La Saladita from October through March. Each month, Proyecto Saladita partners with local restaurants to screen short environmental documentaries that spark conversation around ocean conservation, plastic pollution and sustainable living.
‍
Voces que Suman is an initiative that brings together voices committed to change—people who care deeply about our planet and community, and who use their stories to inspire awareness and action. Through short, one-minute videos, participants—friends, locals, and volunteers—share personal reflections on how everyday choices impact the environment. In putting a focus on topics such as energy use, what people wear, eat, and throw away, each voice adds a new layer to a shared story about conscious living and coastal care.
