GARBAGE

What do I do with my garbage?
There’s weekly collection of garbage by each of the municipalities. The collection trucks stop at houses and hotels where there are garbage cans or bagged garbage. Troncones’ crew routinely comes through on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Between Majahua and La Boca, collection is less frequent but it comes, and the roadside community barrels are typically emptied each week. Saladita has a collection crew that comes through regularly.
Make things easy on the crews by bagging your garbage neatly and by protecting your bags from hungry critters.

Recycling & compost
Recycling of plastics and glass, and collection of roadside and beach garbage are on-going concerns for the communities. If you have the inclination, grab an empty bag, go for a walk and fill it. No one will stop you; people will help you. There are wire recycling bins for plastic bottles along the roadways, look for those near the public garbage cans.
There are two groups dedicated to promoting recycling efforts–Playa Limpia in Troncones and Proyecto Saladita in Saladita; they can be reached via troncones-limpia.org and proyectosaladita.org
Playa Limpia has helped establish a collection center at the crest of the mountain road into Troncones (on your right on the way into town, on your left on the way out). It’s open the last four days of each month–for plastic bottles, glass bottles and metal cans. Bring your glass in thick bags, please. No cartons or paper, no broken plates or glassware, no windows, no styrofoam or single-use plastics. The collection center is open the last four days of the month, only.
For more information on recycling, contact Pato Azulita at +52.753.136.0949. He’s knowledgeable about composting, too. Another reliable source for composting information and materials is Fredy Fugaz +52.755.172.3927. Both Pato and Fredy sell compost, too.
If you have an abundance of debris on your property from your house or garden, beyond what can be taken by the municipal crews, make sure you use a hauler who will handle your trash responsibly. Fines are given to people who are discovered dumping on community land, whether they did it with their own hands or someone did it on their behalf.
