Traveling With Pets
Peope bringing pets to Troncones is quite common. Many of rental homes and hotels in Troncones are pet-friendly; always confirm in advance. Airlines typically require health certificates and up-to-date vaccinations; check requirements before flying.

Living with your pets among the beaches and jungles of Guerrero
‍
Life here is wonderful, but there are a few things to keep in mind to keep your pets safe and healthy:
‍
Heat & ticks: The sun is strong year-round; make sure pets always have shade and fresh water. Tick and flea prevention is a must; there are more than a few bugs at various times of the year.
‍
Herds & wildlife: Iguanas, snakes, scorpions, tejons (a type of raccoon) and crocodiles call this area “home”, too. Keep your pets close by and supervised. There are also herds of goats, cows and horses that are occasionally moved from one grazing ground to the next. No one appreciates it when visitors interfere. That goes for dogs, too.
‍
Leashes & yards: Visiting dogs should be kept on a leash or inside a fenced yard. Free-roaming pets risk accidents on the road and run-ins with other animals. There are many dogs and cats across Troncones, Majahua and Saladita who may or may not have owners; those animals may or may not have their vaccinations.
‍
Veterinary services
Veterinary care is available in Ixtapa, Lagunillas and Troncones. House calls are common.
‍
Routine care (including grooming) is easy to arrange. Documentation of vaccines and check-ups is common-place. Emergencies may require a trip to Ixtapa/Zihua.Â

Street animals & strays
Stray dogs and cats roam Troncones, Majahua and Saladita. Most are gentle and friendly, but some can be dirty and flea ridden. Be cautious with unfamiliar animals. If you get chased by a dog while on a bike, just stop–put the bike between you and the dogs–by then, they’ll usually give up the chase and you won’t be as vulnerable.
‍
Local groups regularly rescue, sterilize and re-home strays. Many residents foster or adopt. Supporting these efforts with donations, adoptions or volunteering is a great way to help the community and the strays.Â
