HOt SPRINGS

Hot Springs
Off of Federal Highway 200 (Carretera Federal 200), a three-minute drive north of the Troncones exit, is a dirt road leading to three hot springs. Ignore the exit to Majahua and Lagunillas that’s immediately after the Troncones exit and it’s the next exit.
The entrance to the dirt road to the hot springs is in front of a directional map indicating the entrance to Lagunillas and La Boca. Take a right in front of that sign, under the one pointing to Lázaro Cárdenas. After about 1 kilometer (.6 miles) you’ll come across a field of palm trees. Park in that field. The hot springs are marked with a sign. You may or may not find a caretaker there who appreciates donations.
The hot springs form three distinct pools. The top pool is the hottest, around 40ºC (104°F), while the middle and lower pools are cooler, around 38°C (100°F) and 36°C (97°F), respectively. The top pool has a pebbly bottom, the other two are mud. Keep your sandals on or wear slip-on beach shoes.
Since our mid-afternoons are often above 90ºF (32ºC), you’ll feel the hot springs most in the morning and early evening.
Bring plenty of water, some healthy snacks, some towels and clothing you don't mind getting dirty. And, of course, please take your garbage with you.
This is an excursion you can do on your own, or with someone who’s been there before. Ask your hosts if they know someone who can go with you. Or, for more information, contact:
